Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal information I collect through gillchristie.com, why I collect it, and what your rights are. I’ve kept it as plain as I can.

Who I am

I’m Gill Christie, the author of Making Room for Everyone. I’m the data controller for the personal information collected on this website. You can contact me about your data at hello@gillchristie.com.

What I collect

  • Mailing list: your email address, and the date and way you signed up.
  • Contact form: your name, email address and whatever you choose to write in your message.
  • Email activity: my mailing list provider tells me whether emails are delivered and opened, and which links are clicked.

I don’t collect any other information about you, and I don’t ask for sensitive details. Please don’t share health or other sensitive information in the contact form unless you’re happy for me to see it.

Why I use it, and the lawful basis

  • To send you book news and the free guide, Making Sense. The lawful basis is your consent, which you give when you sign up. You can withdraw it at any time.
  • To reply to your message and arrange talks or training if you ask. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me.

Who else sees it

I never sell or rent your details. I use these services to run the website and mailing list, and they process data on my behalf under data protection agreements:

  • Kit (Kit Digital, Inc.), to store the mailing list and send emails
  • Cloudflare, to host this website and forward emails sent to my gillchristie.com address
  • Formspree, to deliver messages sent through the contact form
  • Google (Gmail), where I receive and reply to emails

These providers are based in the United States, so your information may be stored there. Transfers are protected by the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (the “UK–US data bridge”) or by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.

How long I keep it

  • Mailing list: until you unsubscribe. After that, I keep only your email address on a suppression list so you aren’t emailed again by mistake.
  • Contact messages: for up to 12 months after our conversation ends, unless we’re working together.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you can:

  • ask for a copy of the information I hold about you
  • ask me to correct or delete it
  • object to, or ask me to limit, how I use it
  • withdraw your consent at any time, using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting me
  • ask for your data in a portable format

To use any of these rights, email hello@gillchristie.com. I’ll reply within one month.

Cookies

This site doesn’t use advertising or analytics cookies. It uses only the small number of cookies needed for the website and sign-up forms to work, which don’t need your consent.

Complaints

If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this notice

If I change how I use your information, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
